Toronto Compassion Centre
( TCC )
The Toronto Compassion Centre (TCC) is a not for profit organization established in 1997 by Warren Hitzig (of Hitzig v. Canada) and Dominic Cramer (founder of Toronto Hemp Company, etc.), and run ‘by members for members’ to serve two purposes: we provide information relating to the therapeutic use of cannabis, and facilitate access to a consistent, safe, and dependable source of medical cannabis products for people suffering from ailments for which cannabis has been shown to be effective.

Cannabis has been used effectively for thousands of years in the treatment of various medical conditions. In recent years, it has been shown to be the best available treatment for the symptoms of a number of ailments. Further, marijuana has been shown to be one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to mankind. Unlike most of the alternatives, marijuana has practically no harmful side effects and produces no physical dependence.
The Toronto Compassion Centre exists because people are suffering unnecessarily. The TCC and Centres like it are necessary to fill the gap between our society's widespread acceptance of the benefits of cannabis as medicine and our government's reluctance to provide that which thousands of Canadians need: a reasonable source. Compassion Centres strive to provide an essential but not-yet-legal service in a manner that is as tolerable and respectable as possible.
Health Canada's MMAR (Marihuana Medical Access Regulations) provide a limited (and unfairly difficult to acquire) exemption from the law for people who need to possess and grow cannabis for medicinal purposes. These Regulations protect licensees (‘exemptees’) from prosecution for possessing cannabis, but do not allow for any reasonable type of access except growing your own, which is not a viable option for most. The option of purchasing medical marijuana from the 'government mine' is not generally a very viable one due to the conspicuously disappointing quality, safety and variety of cannabis available in this manner. There are many concerns with the Health Canada marijuana, not the least of which being the process of gamma irradiation that it is oddly subjected to. For more information about these concerns, please consult Canadians for Safe Access (www.safeaccess.ca)
For obvious legal reasons, the sale of cannabis products is restricted to people who satisfy strict membership requirements. There are three categories that the TCC accepts new members in. See Membership.
TCC membership is free and confidential. What we require from prospective members: photo identification and a completed membership package.
